How the calculation works
The ADAG study relationship is eAG (mg/dL) = 28.7 × HbA1c (%) − 46.7. Approximate mmol/L = mg/dL ÷ 18.0182. The reverse mode solves this equation algebraically.
Worked example
An A1c of 7.0% corresponds to an eAG of about 154 mg/dL (8.6 mmol/L).
Understanding the result
eAG is a statistical estimate, not a measurement of your glucose at a particular moment. Individuals with the same A1c can have different patterns of glucose fluctuation.
The reverse conversion is not a diagnostic laboratory test and differs from the glucose management indicator (GMI) used with some CGM reports.
Limitations
A1c may be misleading in certain conditions affecting red blood cells or hemoglobin. Use clinical context and laboratory results.
